The musical stylings of Hip Hop artists Nujabes and MC Shing 02 underline the fluid international crisscross of anime subcultures from Tokyo to New York and the creative collaboration that is generated from its vibrant ether. This special double-feature screening includes new anime classics from director Shinichiro Watanabe, “Samurai Champloo” and “Cowboy Bebop.”
“Samurai Champloo” follows the adventures of Samurai odd couple Mugen and Jin— Mugen, firey and violent and Jin, traditional and mysterious. “Cowboy Bebop” brings us deep into the 21st century, where humanity has developed an interplanetary society and a new breed of “cowboy” bounty hunters pursue the outlaws and crime.
This special screening will feature a discussion between impresario of anime Taeko Baba, CEO of New York-Tokyo, and moderator Thomas Looser, Associate Professor of East Asian Studies at NYU.
