Nadine Fattaleh is a Palestinian researcher, writer, and translator from Amman. She is currently a PhD student in the Department of Media, Culture, and Communication at New York University. Her translation of Khadijeh Habashneh’s Knights of Cinema: The Story of the Palestine Film Unit was published in May 2023. She has worked on film and public programs at Anthology Film Archives, Upstate Films, Maysles Documentary Center, Palestine Cuts, MMAG Foundation, and Mosaic Rooms. She contributes to a number of volunteer initiatives including the Palestine Film Index, an open access compilation of Palestinian cinema resources, and the Palestinian Social Fund, a grassroots, solidarity-based fund supporting agricultural cooperatives in the Occupied West Bank. Her writings have appeared in World Records, Seen Journal, Broudou Magazine, Science for the People Magazine, Jadaliyya, and n+1.

She is the Fall 2024 Student Artist-in-Residence at the Asian/Pacific/American Institute at NYU.

I am a collector and producer of texts and images. I work collaboratively to re-activate fragments I inherit from previous generations of Palestinians who share the dream of a free Palestine. The residency at the Asian/Pacific/American Institute will allow me to compile a living archive of our community’s collective struggle.

We at the Asian/Pacific/American Institute at NYU are delighted to welcome Nadine Fattaleh as our Student Artist-in-Residence in Fall 2024. Currently a PhD student in Media, Culture, and Communication at NYU, Fattaleh is an accomplished artist, activist, and researcher, whose work has been impelled by a clearsighted commitment to political justice for Palestinians, in solidarity with Asian/Pacific/Americans. She has sought to preserve and interpret resources from the past and our current moment, which aid us in imagining and struggling for a shared future that is democratic, equitable, and sustainable. Contributing to our yearlong focus on “Asian/Pacific/American Prospects,” Fattaleh helps us to uncover the diverse and powerful perspectives by which Asian/Pacific/Americans confront the different crises facing our communities.
