Abstract:

The Shore is an eight episode television show about three eleven-year-old girls Newt Nadela, Brianne Redwyne, and Kelsey Lim. Overachieving, confident kids, the three best friends are growing up in a predominantly white community that values traditional gender roles.

When a mysterious creature begins attacking the town’s citizens, everyone believes a shark is lurking in the water. Marine biologist Ashley Patel, a woman with a difficult past, thinks otherwise, and begins to investigate. On the same day the attacks begin, Newt, Brie, and Kelsey begin to manifest telekinetic powers.

Things get stranger when a mysterious, perky stranger named My Linh arrives in town and asks for the girls’ help in saving the creature in the water by returning it to its home. My Linh offers to train the girls in how to use their newfound powers, on the condition that they tell no one, not even their parents. As the bodies pile up, the girls are left to question who they can really trust.

The Shore is an adventurous coming of age thriller and a slow burn critique of the pressures and decisions young heroines face as they strive to protect their loved ones and unlock their true potential.
