- Address: New York, NY United States
A/P/A Reads is a virtual book club for NYU students with an interest in Asian/Pacific/American literature. Members meet monthly to discuss selected works and engage in meaningful dialogue together.
For the first meeting of Spring 2022, A/P/A Reads will discuss Madhuri Sastry’s article “Palatable Love: Seeking a Happily Ever After in a White Publishing World,” published in the Fall 2020 issue of Bitch Magazine: Feminist Response to Pop Culture.
Exploring the concessions some South Asian women writers make when creating for a white publishing industry, Sastry analyzes popular Indian romance novels, noting how many rely on harmful stereotypes and narratives.
