An informal talk about the work of PJ Hirabayashi and the birth of American Taiko; Yoko Fujimoto, a principal performer with Kodo, speaking of her artistic decision to explore Japanese folk music; and Nobuko Miyamoto, contemporary Asian American singer and songwriter speaking of the evolution of her music that evolved from the Asian American movement and its impact on Asian American culture. The three come together to explore how their music and their lives as women cultural workers have intersected and helped them grow as artists. This is a rare opportunity to see how American Taiko and contemporary and Japanese folk music are influencing a new direction in Asian American music. The event will culminate in a demo participation.
