Presented by the NYU Center for the Study of Media, Culture, and History. Co-sponsored by NYU Native Studies Forum, NYU Department of Anthropology, and the Asian/Pacific/American Institute at NYU.
This virtual screening of Cane Fire (2020, 90 mins.) will be followed by a conversation with filmmaker Anthony Banua-Simon and Kanaka Maoli scholar and filmmaker Ikaika Ramones (NYU Department of Anthropology). Cane Fire explores the economic and cultural forces that cast Native Hawaiian and working-class people as “extras” in their own story.
