Data Storytelling in Practice with Visualizing Palestine

Co-sponsored by the Asian/Pacific/American Institute at NYU, Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies, Department of Art and Art Professions, Department of English, Department of Media, Culture, and Communication, Gallatin Human Rights Initiative, Kevorkian Center for Near Eastern Studies, Middle East and Islamic Studies Department, NYU Faculty and Staff for Justice in Palestine, and Program in International Relations.
Featuring Visualizing Palestine, practitioners who visualize systems of oppression while working in partnership with movements for justice and accountability, this event will focus on key questions about data, research, and visual communication as tools for narrative interventions and advocacy. Through a discussion of Visualizing Palestine’s production process—based on rigorous research, creative design strategies, and critical inquiry into visual language and representational politics—attendees will arrive at both a theoretical and practical understanding of data storytelling. Panelists will focus on the history, evolution, and placement of Visualizing Palestine, and its role in supporting the movement for Palestinian liberation.
