These selected works by Japanese American artist Jimmy Mirikitani are pulled from the exhibition curated by artist Roger Shimomura at the Wing Luke Museum in Seattle, Washington. Mirikitani’s work is featured in the Tribeca Film Festival award-winning documentary “Cats of Mirikitani” by filmmaker Linda Hattendorf (see above) and detail the effects of war and discrimination. The works, created while Mirikitani lived homeless on the streets of New York, comment on the artist’s time in Tule Lake internment camp, the trauma of the atomic bomb devastating his family home in Hiroshima, as well as post-9/11 in the U.S.
