Co-sponsored by the Asian/Pacific/American Institute at NYU. \nIn partnership with the Tatou Festival\, the A/P/A Institute at NYU hosts a special screening of poignant short films by Native filmmakers from the Pacific\, followed by wala’au with the artists and their collaborators. \nThe program will feature artists Dakota Camacho (Etak and Mali’e’)\, Lanihuli Kanahele (The Uluwehi Project)\, Leilehua Lanzilotti (the sky in our hands\, our hands in the sky)\, Hāwane Rios (Standing Above the Clouds)\, and Sancia Miala Shiba Nash (Ho’oulu Hou by kekahi wahi). Madilyne Nguyen-Acosta moderates the conversation. \nDoors open at 6:00 p.m.\, and the program begins with an immersive experience featuring the work of Kanaka Maoli composer and Pulitzer Prize nominee Leilehua Lanzilotti. Walk-in guests with a valid NYU ID will be admitted as capacity allows. \nInternational students studying in the United States have found themselves in the cross-hairs of many current federal policies and strategies. A majority of international students hail from Asian nations\, the rate of those arriving from Sub-Saharan Africa is growing at the fastest rate\, and Latinx students make up more than half of those who are undocumented and now increasingly being treated as international\, despite having lived in the United States for many years. From travel bans to visa revocations\, punitive measures against campus protests and cuts in federal funding of research\, recent actions have made the position of all these students quite precarious.      \nOf institutions with large shares of international students\, NYU ranks amongst the highest. With approximately 44% of its student body made up of international students\, this is an issue of particular urgency on our campus. This panel brings together scholars and experts to understand the historical and contemporary contexts of international educational exchange\, along with the implications and effects of current circumstances for the well-being of international and undocumented students. \nNYU campus access guidelines: This is an in-person event\, open to current NYU students\, staff\, and faculty. SUMMARY:Reels of Relation: An Indigenous Student Film Showcase
DESCRIPTION:An Indigenous Equinox Gatherings NYC Program. Presented by the Center for Collaborative Indigenous Research with Communities and Lands (Center CIRCL). Co-sponsored by the Asian/Pacific/American Institute at NYU. \nREGISTER \nReels of Relation: An Indigenous Student Film Showcase features a line-up of films by Indigenous students. The screening is part of Center CIRCL’s Indigenous Equinox Gatherings NYC\, two days of activations for Indigenous presence and continuity in New York City. Additional activities include workshops\, panels\, and performances at NYU and other sites across the city. This event series also coincides with the fall equinox. The length of day and night are in balance in the days leading up to and after the autumnal equinox. \nThese gatherings inaugurate Center CIRCL’s biennial theme: This City is So Indigenous. They are a chance for students\, community members\, artists and educators to meet again in New York City\, starting a new season of study\, research\, struggle\, and relation. Featuring autonomous sessions planned by different Indigenous groups and organizations\, this two-day event will nourish the connections that will carry us through the months and years ahead. \n  \nNYU campus access guidelines: This is an in-person event\, open to the public. Registration is required. Photo ID is required for entrance into NYU buildings. \nAccessibility note: This venue has an access ramp entrance. The auditorium is on the first floor.
