DESCRIPTION:Presented by the A/P/A Graduate Student Working Group. Hosted by the Asian/Pacific/American Institute at NYU. \nREGISTER \nThis year\, the A/P/A Graduate Student Working Group‘s monthly workshops and annual symposium (to be hosted March 5-6\, 2026) will be organized around the theme of “Grounds of Displacement\,” alongside the A/P/A Institute’s continued theme of “Asian/Pacific/American Prospects.” \nTo that end\, on Friday\, September 12 from 1:00-2:30 p.m.\, the group will be discussing the following readings to consider how the “Grounds of Displacement” can be applicable to various fields and topics and can be uniquely uniting amongst all of our projects during this political moment. \n\nReadings \n\n\n\nMegan Black\, “Empire Underground: The Stakes of U.S. Claims to Vertical Power”\nHarsha Walia\, “There is No ‘Migrant Crisis'”\n\n\n\nSuggested further reading \n\n\n\nLauren Carasik\, “The American ‘Deportation Mill'”\nAndrew Curley\, Carbon Sovereignty: Coal\, Development\, and Energy Transition in the Navajo Nation\nVictor Seow\, Carbon Technocracy: Energy Regimes in Modern East Asia\n\n\n\n\nFollowing the workshop\, the group hosts a social (2:30-4:00 p.m.) for attendees to connect with fellow graduate students from NYU and nearby universities working in the field of Asian/Pacific/American Studies. \n\n\nNYU campus access guidelines: This is an in-person event\, open to graduate students from NYU and nearby universities. Registration is required. Non-NYU guests may be asked to present a government-issued photo ID. NYU guests must present their NYU ID. \nAccessibility note: This venue has an elevator and is accessible for wheelchair users.
