SUMMARY:Transpacific Experiments – Imagining Music\, Practice\, and Writing
DESCRIPTION:Presented by the NYU Center of Humanities. Co-sponsored by the Asian/Pacific/American Institute at NYU. \nREGISTER \n\n\n\nMiki Kaneda‘s Transpacific Experiments: Intermedia Art in 1960s Japan (University of Michigan Press\, 2026) analyzes intermedia as a multimodal practice that gives form to errant possibilities\, unfolding in spaces of the everyday. In the book\, Kaneda contends that intermedia extends\, exceeds\, and at times unsettles frameworks for experimental practices\, revealing the limitations of any single political or aesthetic lens. \nWith the book as a point of departure\, Ethiraj Gabriel Dattatreyan (NYU Department of Anthropology) and Angie Pittman (NYU Tisch Department of Dance) join Miki Kaneda (NYU Center for the Humanities) in a conversation about how we might imagine practice (music\, dance\, film\, ethnography\, and beyond) as ways of thinking about writing and remembering how art weaves history and memory. Moderated by Cristina Vatulescu (NYU Center for the Humanities). \nNYU campus access guidelines: This is an in-person event open to the public. Registration is required. Non-NYU guests may be asked to present a government-issued photo ID. NYU guests must present their NYU ID. \nAccessibility note: This venue has an elevator and is accessible for wheelchair users. There are single-stall\, all gender restrooms available. If you have any access needs\, please email humanities.center@nyu.edu
