DESCRIPTION:A Tatou Festival Program. Presented by Te Ao Mana. Co-sponsored by the Asian/Pacific/American Institute at NYU. \nTICKETS \nIn partnership with the Tatou Festival\, the A/P/A Institute at NYU co-sponsors a screening of short films featuring stories of Ea (alive & free). Through the voices and visions of Indigenous and Pacific-based artists and filmmakers\, the films explore cultural resurgence\, reclamation\, identity\, and resistance. \nThe program will feature: \n\nPatutiki: The Guardians of the Marquesan Tattoo (Heretu Tetahiotupa) centers traditional Marquesan tattoo practice and explores its cultural significance. The film is presented in partnership with the Festival International du Film Documentare Oceanien (FIFO)\, Tahiti’s prestigious International Oceanian Documentary Film Festival\, where the film won the Audience Prize in 2019.\nEa (Sovereign)(Sancia Miala Shiba Nash) focuses on the fight for ceded/kuleana lands in Hawai’i.\nJustice-Advancing Architecture Tour (Sean Connelly) explores navigation\, GPS\, and deep sea mining in the context of Hawai’i’s history.  \n\nA Q&A with the filmmakers will follow. \nAccessibility note: This venue has an elevator and is accessible for wheelchair users.
